A moving quote rests on one figure: how many cubic metres have to be moved. If that figure is estimated by eye, or jotted in a notebook and typed up two days later, the same three things happen: items get forgotten, there is an argument with the customer on loading day, and the truck sent out was not the one needed.

Room by room — and floor by floor for an office

The app handles the two realities of the trade, which are not surveyed the same way:

• Homes: you walk through room by room, adding the items in each one.
• Offices: floors first, and within each floor its rooms. A four-floor office move does not fit in a flat list.
• Every item comes from the company's own catalogue, not a free-text field: that is what makes volume comparable between quotes and between salespeople.
• Packing type per item, which is what turns an inventory into materials and hours.
• Origin and destination, with their access details.

Photos, quote and signature during the survey

Photos are taken in the app and stay attached to the item and the room — which is how you settle an argument about the condition of a piece of furniture without it being one person's word against another's. With the inventory closed, the quote is generated and the customer signs on the device itself, before the salesperson walks out. The visit ends with a decision, not with "we'll send you the quote this week".

No coverage: genuinely offline, not a workaround

This is usually what separates an inventory app that survives daily use from one that does not. Many need the network to look up their catalogues, so in a basement, a storage unit or a house out of town they leave the salesperson stranded.

Which devices does it run on?

It is a mobile app; the byVisitors listing is published on the App Store. It is used on the salesperson's phone or tablet.

Does it really work without internet?

Yes, and that is the difference: it does not only store what you record, it also carries the company's catalogues downloaded. You can do the complete survey — rooms, items, photos, quote and signature — in airplane mode, and sync on the way out.

Does it handle office moves?

Yes. An office inventory is organised by floors and, within each floor, by rooms.

Does the customer sign on the phone?

Yes, on the device itself, when closing the survey.

What happens with the photos?

They are taken in the app and stay linked to the room and the item, and travel to the job file on sync.
